Rambus Loses $250M Of Hynix Win For Destroying Evidence

Law360, New York (May 9, 2013, 2:02 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Wednesday hit Rambus Inc. with $250 million in sanctions for egregious evidence destruction in its long-running patent case against Hynix Semiconductor Inc., drastically reducing the $397 million judgment Rambus won in 2009.

The fines came roughly two years after the Federal Circuit found that Rambus had carried out companywide "shred days" in the lead-up to a parallel legal fight with Micron Technology Inc., intentionally destroying evidence when litigation was reasonably foreseeable.
