Skechers Wins OK For $45M Settlement Over Toning Sneakers

Law360, New York (May 13, 2013, 5:15 PM EDT) -- Skechers USA Inc. on Monday won final approval for its $45 million settlement to resolve class action claims that the fitness footwear maker falsely advertised the calorie-busting and other health benefits of its toning shoes without demonstrating enough proof of any such benefits.

Kentucky federal judge Thomas B. Russell gave the final greenlight to the settlement, which includes $40 million for the consumer class that purchased Skechers’ toning footwear including its Shape-ups toners, as well as an additional $5 million in attorneys’ fees and costs. The...
