Texas Lawmakers Push Health-Data Modernization Bills

Law360, Houston (May 13, 2013, 8:25 PM EDT) -- Texas lawmakers on Thursday gave final approval to legislation designed to modernize medical data management and are pushing another pair of measures that aim to make the insurance preapproval process for prescription drugs and other health care benefits easier on patients.

The Texas House and Senate passed S.B. 166, which would allow health care providers to swipe the electronic strip on the back of driver’s licenses to verify and collect patient information.
