DOJ Settles Police Discrimination Suit With Corpus Christi

Law360, New York (May 16, 2013, 3:28 PM EDT) -- The city of Corpus Christi, Texas, has reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations that it discriminated against female police applicants by screening them through a physical fitness test, federal officials said Wednesday.

Corpus Christi must pay $700,000 in back pay to female applicants who took and failed the test between 2005 and 2011. Some women who failed the test may receive offers of priority employment with retroactive seniority and benefits, according to a proposed consent decree. The city must also replace...
