NY DOL Unveils Proposed Regs On Wage Deductions

Law360, New York (May 21, 2013, 6:49 PM EDT) -- The New York Department of Labor is slated to publish proposed regulations in the State Register on Wednesday that govern how businesses can implement recent amendments to state labor law that expand an employer's ability to make voluntary deductions from employee wages.

Legislation passed by the state Senate and Assembly on June 21 amended the New York Labor Law by broadening the scope of permissible deductions from consenting employees' wages. Section 193 of the NYLL prohibits employers from making deductions from employees’ wages, with certain exceptions,...
