Texas Sens. Vote To Expand Pipeline Regulator's Reach

Law360, Houston (May 20, 2013, 5:15 PM EDT) -- The Texas Senate passed legislation Monday that would empower the state's oil and gas authority to impose environmental and safety standards on the operators of some 77,000 miles of unregulated pipeline tributaries throughout the state.

The Senate passed H.B. 2982, which authorizes the Texas Railroad Commission to regulate the safety of rural gathering lines that tie into pipelines transporting petroleum, natural gas and carbon dioxide, which under current federal safety laws, are not regulated.
