Texas Bill Curbing Suits Over Ex-Offender Hiring Reaches Gov.

Law360, Dallas (May 21, 2013, 8:36 PM EDT) -- Texas employers can’t be sued for negligently hiring workers or independent contractors with certain past criminal convictions, under a bill sent to Gov. Rick Perry for approval Monday.

H.B. 1188 prohibits most claims against against employers, general contractors, building owners and other third parties that allege liability solely for negligently hiring or not adequately supervising workers who’ve been convicted of a criminal offense.
