Former Texas DA Convicted For Role In Bribery Scheme

By Jeremy Heallen (May 28, 2013, 5:30 PM EDT) -- A federal jury on Friday convicted a former South Texas district attorney on charges he took bribes from criminal defendants in exchange for more favorable prosecutions through a kickback scheme involving his former law partner and a disgraced state judge.

Deliberating less than a day, jurors found former Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos guilty on six counts of extortion and single counts of racketeering, conspiracy and aiding and abetting for his role in the scam, which entangled alleged co-conspirator Eduardo Lucio and former 404th Judicial District Judge Abel Corral Limas.
