N.Y. Sues Tax Prep Cos. Over High-Interest Loans

Law360, New York (January 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- With tax season right around the corner, New York state regulators have set out to curb the allegedly predatory lending practices of two of the state's largest tax preparers.

The New York State Division of Human Rights said on Thursday that it had filed two civil rights lawsuits targeting tax preparation companies Jackson Hewitt Inc. and Liberty Tax Service for allegedly employing predatory lending practices in granting tax refund loans.
