Travelers Demands Chevron Pay For Oily Water Pollution

Law360, New York (May 31, 2013, 7:03 PM EDT) -- Travelers Property Casualty Co. of America on Thursday asked a California federal court to hold Chevron USA Inc. liable for pollution caused by an oily water mixture that allegedly spilled from one of the company's production plants into a neighboring facility and polluted area waters.

Chevron allowed surface water collected at the plant to be contaminated with oil, and then let the substance flow onto Travelers policyholder TRC Operating Co. Inc.'s property and into nearby Sandy Creek. Travelers had to foot the bill for cleanup efforts,...
