Bracewell Can Rep Schlumberger Rival In Drilling IP Row

Law360, New York (May 31, 2013, 4:32 PM EDT) -- Schlumberger Technology Corp. on Friday lost an attempt to stop its former counsel Bracewell & Giuliani LLP from representing rival Baker Hughes Inc. in a drilling patent dispute, when a Texas federal judge ruled that Bracewell had only advised Schlumberger in employment matters.

U.S. District Judge Lynn N. Hughes denied Schlumberger's motion to disqualify Bracewell from representing Baker Hughes, ruling that attorneys in Texas can represent clients who are adversaries as long as the legal issues involved are not closely related.
