UPMC Slams Pittsburgh Mayor, 'Sham' Lawsuit In Tax Dispute

Law360, Philadelphia (June 7, 2013, 3:42 PM EDT) -- The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Thursday amended its federal lawsuit against the city of Pittsburgh and its mayor, alleging that the outgoing mayor’s attempt to repeal its tax-exempt status is prompted by his post-mayoral personal agenda.

In the amended complaint, the health care giant — Pennsylvania’s largest employer — added to its earlier claims that Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and the city’s assault on its tax exemption violated both state and local law as well its constitutional equal protection and due process rights.
