New Details Emerge In Second Scruggs Scandal

Law360, New York (January 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Mississippi judge is fighting allegations that plaintiffs attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs pressed him to issue a favorable ruling in an asbestos-litigation fee dispute by hinting that such a move could land him on the federal bench.

Prosecutors are alleging that Hinds County Circuit Judge Robert DeLaughter was notified by a friend that it could be in his best interest to side with the famed lawyer, according to papers that were recently unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Mississippi.
