Appeals Court Strikes $1.5M Verdict In Spanking Case

Law360, New York (January 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A California appeals court has overturned a verdict awarding $1.5 million to a saleswoman who claimed she was sexually harassed by her supervisors, who spanked her during camaraderie-building exercises at work.

The three-judge panel of the Fifth Appellate court reversed the verdict last week, saying there was evidence the motivational spanking was employed indiscriminately against both male and female employees at Alarm One Inc., and was not therefore a basis for a claim of sexual harassment.
