EEOC Scores $3.4M Win In ADA Suit Over Abused Workers
By Ben James (June 12, 2013, 4:24 PM EDT) -- An Iowa federal judge entered a $3.4 million judgment Tuesday against Hill Country Farms Inc. — which the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said abused and underpaid intellectually disabled turkey plant workers — after a $240 million jury verdict was slashed because of damage caps.
U.S. District Judge Charles R. Wolle said he granted the EEOC's requested judgment but not the agency's bid for expert witness fees for intellectual and developmental disability expert Dr. Sue Grant, concluding that the verdict would have been the same even if she hadn't testified.
