Miners Union Says Patriot Coal Ditched Labor Talks

Law360, New York (June 12, 2013, 6:47 PM EDT) -- The United Mine Workers of America on Wednesday said Patriot Coal Corp. “walked out” of labor and retirement contract negotiations, but the company quickly fired back, calling the union's accusations "inaccurate and distorted."

The dispute stems over talks that began after a court ruling last month permitted the company to slash health care benefits for retirees and force other concessions. The union has threatened to strike if it the cutbacks approved by the court are implemented.
