E-Data Sues Microsoft, Others Over Online Music Downloads in Germany

Law360 (October 13, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- E-Data Corporation said it has filed a lawsuit in Mannheim, Germany against Microsoft's and Tiscali's Germany subsidiaries as well as On Demand Distribution, alleging that the companies infringed on a European patent.

The company claims that a platform enabling Tiscali Music Club customers to download individual music tracks for a fee using Microsoft's Windows Media Player and Digital Rights Management technology infringes on a patent covering the downloading and recording of information, such as music, from a computer onto a tangible object, such as CDs, DVDs...
