Texas Gov. Vetoes State Version Of Lilly Ledbetter Act

Rick Perry on Friday vetoed legislation intended to bring state law in line with the federal Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, drawing complaints from state Democrats who said the veto unfairly blocks Texans from bringing pay discrimination lawsuits in state court.

H.B. 950 would have extended the deadline for pursuing a pay discrimination claim under state law over lower pay to women who perform the same work as more highly paid men. The governor said in a statement Friday workers already have the right to pursue those claims in federal court.
