Fishery Execs Must Pay $30M For Illegal Lobster Imports

Law360, New York (June 14, 2013, 9:49 PM EDT) -- Three fishery executives accused of importing illegally harvested rock lobsters from South Africa were hit with a nearly $30 million restitution order Friday, which prosecutors said was the largest-ever restitution amount under the federal law that bars trafficking in protected wildlife, fish and plants.

U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan ruled that South Africa was entitled to the restitution because of the harm it was caused by the scheme involving father and son Arnold Maurice Bengis and David Bengis and their associate Jeffrey Noll.
