Ill. Gov. Signs Nation's Toughest Fracking Law

Law360, New York (June 18, 2013, 12:43 PM EDT) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Monday signed into law a bill to regulate hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in the state, saying the legislation would give the state the strongest environmental standards for the practice in the U.S.

The bill, S.B. 1715, referred to as the Hydraulic Fracturing Regulatory Act, introduces the first comprehensive controls on fracking — previously legal, but subject to regulatory uncertainty — in the state. It requires oil and gas drillers to disclose which chemicals they're using both before and after fracking operations...
