FTC Head Calls For Broad Probe Of 'Patent Trolls'

Law360, New York (June 20, 2013, 3:15 PM EDT) -- The head of the Federal Trade Commission on Thursday called for the agency to launch a broad investigation into the tactics of so-called patent trolls, which she said "raise red flags for competition and consumers."

FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said in a speech at the National Press Club that the commission should use its authority to study industries to probe what she referred to as patent assertion entities, or PAEs, in order to better understand how they operate.
