UK Competition Court Upholds Akzo Nobel Merger Ban

Law360, New York (June 21, 2013, 4:32 PM EDT) -- A U.K. antitrust court on Friday upheld the country's decision to block Akzo Nobel NV's bid to take over rival Metlac Holding Srl on antitrust grounds, ruling that the fact that Germany's antitrust watchdog cleared the deal doesn't mean the British probe was inadequate.

The U.K.'s Competition Appeal Tribunal rejected Akzo's effort to overturn the Competition Commission's December ruling holding that the takeover would likely reduce competition for metal packaging coatings used in beverage cans.
