US Faults China As NSA Leaker Snowden Flees Hong Kong

Law360, Chicago (June 24, 2013, 7:58 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Monday lambasted China for allowing National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden to depart Hong Kong over the weekend, while Ecuador is reportedly mulling the fugitive’s request for asylum.

During a press briefing, White House spokesman Jay Carney said U.S. authorities understand that Snowden left Hong Kong on Sunday and at the time was in Russia. But the administration is “not buying” Hong Kong’s official line that the decision to let Snowden go was made by a local bureaucrat, he added.
