VW Faces Class Action Over Fire Risk In Passat

Law360 (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- An alleged fire hazard in Volkswagen Passats under investigation by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration has prompted a proposed class action by a vehicle owner against the automaker.

Passat owner Ryan Schipaanboord of West Jordan, Utah, filed the suit against Volkswagen of America Inc. Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.

Schipaanboord alleges that his 2001 vehicle was among those identified by an NHTSA investigation as potentially being prone to engine fires.
