Law360, New York (January 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A committee of the Alaska State Legislature has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the fishermen and state residents who won $2.5 billion in punitive damages from Exxon Mobil Corp. over the 1989 Valdez tanker spill. (Corrects an article published on Jan. 29.)
The brief was filed Jan. 15 by the Alaska Legislative Council, a permanent committee of the Alaska State Legislature that is made up of Alaska state lawmakers and four former governors.
