Texas High Court Cuts Houston Firefighters' Win In Pay Row

Law360, Houston (June 28, 2013, 4:59 PM EDT) -- Texas' highest court handed a partial victory Friday to retired firefighters who say they were shortchanged by the city of Houston, ruling that the city correctly calculated their overtime wages but placed an improper limit on their termination pay.

The Texas Supreme Court nixed the claim of retired firefighters Roger Bates, Michael L. Spratt and Douglas Springer that in calculating overtime pay, the city should have included time the men were on "approved unpaid leave," but said that a city ordinance limiting termination pay was invalid....
