ACA Contraception Mandate Will Apply To For-Profits

Law360, New York (June 28, 2013, 1:23 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Friday finalized the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that all for-profit employers include birth-control coverage in their health insurance plans, guaranteeing continued court fights over religious freedom and women’s health.

While the final rule made good on promises to provide extra leeway for religious nonprofits to avoid directly offering contraception, it held firm when it came to for-profit corporations and secular nonprofits, many of which are fighting for accommodations based on their owners’ religious beliefs.
