British Officials Set Up London-Based IP Crime Unit

Law360, Los Angeles (June 28, 2013, 6:12 PM EDT) -- Authorities in the United Kingdom on Friday announced the formation of a new police unit targeting intellectual property crime and online piracy, with a scheduled launch expected in September by that nation’s Intellectual Property Office.

Over the next two years, the Intellectual Property Office will provide £2.5 million ($3.8 million) to the City of London Police to establish and run the unit. The unit’s formation was announced by the British government’s intellectual property minister, Lord Younger, and City of London Police Commissioner Adrian Leppard.
