House Approves Plan To Expand Offshore Oil And Gas Leases

Law360, Washington (June 28, 2013, 7:04 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Friday that would open the door for offshore oil and gas leases along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and maintain energy production on federal lands in Alaska.

In a 235-186 vote, with 16 Democrats joining the Republican majority, the lawmakers passed the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, pushing back against the Obama administration's five-year offshore lease plan released in June 2012, which shuts off 85 percent of America's offshore areas to energy production.
