BP Reaches $7M Consumer Deal Over Tainted Gas

Law360, New York (July 1, 2013, 6:32 PM EDT) -- BP Products NA Inc. said Monday that it will pay $7 million to resolve a class action stemming from its sale of 4.7 million gallons of tainted retail gasoline that allegedly caused engine damage in vehicles throughout parts of the Midwest.

The $5 million settlement is on top of the $16 million BP has already paid out to 16,800 customers through a dedicated claims facility it set up to handle fuel reimbursement and repair costs tied to the incident, the company said. The deal will also yield...
