Roche Defeats Class Cert. Bid In Canadian Accutane Action

Law360, New York (July 3, 2013, 4:45 PM EDT) -- A Canadian court has refused to certify a class action against Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. claiming the acne drug Accutane causes inflammatory bowel disease, saying the plaintiff had not demonstrated a causal link between the drug and the condition.

In a June 27 opinion, Judge Manon Savard denied certification to a proposed class of Quebec citizens who used Accutane and allegedly suffer from Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, proctitis, rectal bleeding or certain other bowel diseases.
