FTC Wins OK Of $17.9M Order Against Telemarketing Cos.

Law360, Los Angeles (July 8, 2013, 4:18 PM EDT) -- An Arizona federal judge on Monday approved the Federal Trade Commission's suspended $17.9 million judgment against telemarketing companies that allegedly sold websites whose links to retail sites for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Best Buy Co. supposedly would turn a profit for work-from-home entrepreneurs.

The settlement covers 20 corporate and individual defendants, led by North America Marketing and Associates LLC, who allegedly ran a scheme cheating consumers trying to start their own online businesses. The order also blocks the defendants from collecting payment from any consumer who...
