Patent Reform Debate Heats Up

Law360 (January 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Firing another volley in its battle against the Patent Reform Act, the Biotechnology Industry Organization trade group has released a study that it claims found little empirical evidence to support what it called “draconian efforts to weaken patent rights.”

The study, commissioned by BIO and completed by researchers at the University of Virginia, says that three reports often cited as evidence of a clear need to reform the U.S. patent system are based largely on anecdotes and conjecture, not on empirical data.
