Law360, Los Angeles (July 12, 2013, 10:05 PM EDT) -- Former New York governor and current New York City comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer was hit with a defamation lawsuit in New York court Friday by former American International Group Inc. chairman and CEO Maurice R. "Hank" Greenberg, who says Spitzer is behind a “long-standing malicious campaign” to discredit him.
The lawsuit comes just one day after Spitzer announced on Twitter that his campaign for the comptroller seat had collected the minimum 27,000 signatures necessary to appear on a primary ballot in September.
