Sybase Files Lawsuit Over Columnar Database Patent

Law360, New York (January 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Sybase Inc. has sued rival software company Vertica Systems Inc. for allegedly infringing one of its columnar database patents.

In its complaint, filed Wednesday with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Sybase accused Vertica of willfully infringing the patent, both literally and under the doctrine of equivalents, through the sale of its Vertica Database product.

In a statement, Dublin, Calif.-based Sybase said that it was “pursuing all remedies afforded to it under U.S. patent law.”
