Ex-IRS Official Gets Probation Over Commerzbank Job Conflict

Law360, New York (July 16, 2013, 8:29 PM EDT) -- A former Internal Revenue Service official was sentenced Tuesday to probation for violating conflict of interest law by taking a job with Commerzbank AG while leading the IRS negotiation of a $210 million tax settlement with the German financial institution.

Dennis Lerner, 60, was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine for taking a tax director job at Commerzbank’s New York Office while the bank was being audited for an alleged failure to report $1 billion in income.
