BP Wants Deepwater Payouts Stopped Amid Fraud Probe

Law360, Los Angeles (July 16, 2013, 9:49 PM EDT) -- BP PLC on Tuesday asked a Louisiana federal judge to temporarily stop payments related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill while a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director investigates allegations of misconduct by an attorney for the court-supervised settlement program.

BP attorneys told U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier that other aspects of the claims process could have been compromised amid an Associated Press report that claimed administrator Patrick Juneau apprised the judge of allegations of misconduct against lawyer Lionel H. Sutton III.
