Cybersecurity Pros Call For Federal Breach Notification Law

Law360, New York (July 18, 2013, 4:38 PM EDT) -- A panel of cybersecurity experts warned the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Thursday of the pressing need for comprehensive federal legislation regulating data breach notification to replace the patchwork system of state laws currently in place.

The testimony comes as Congress is considering how best to minimize the estimated $110 billion in global costs for cybersecurity breaches and assist companies in notifying consumers of data intrusions in an increasingly mobile world where breaches often transcend state boundaries.
