3 NJ Docs Plead Guilty To Cash-For-Referral Kickback Scheme

Law360, New York (July 17, 2013, 10:26 PM EDT) -- Three New Jersey doctors admitted Wednesday their participation in a $100 million cash-for-referrals scheme, in which doctors accepted bribes from a medical testing laboratory in exchange for diagnostic referrals for tests that were not medically necessary and sometimes not even performed. 

Claudio Dicovskiy, Franklin Dana Fortunato and Dennis Aponte pled guilty in a New Jersey federal court to violations of the Federal Travel Act, relating to their acceptance of bribes from Parsippany, N.J.-based Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services in exchange for their referrals, which earned Dicovskiy $224,000, Fortunato...
