Labor Chief Nominee Moves Closer To Taking Reins

Law360, New York (July 17, 2013, 8:59 PM EDT) -- Thomas Perez moved a bit closer to taking over the U.S. Department of Labor on Wednesday, when the Senate narrowly voted to cut off debate on President Barack Obama's controversial pick for the next labor secretary and set the stage for a vote on his confirmation.  

Six Republicans joined 52 Democrats and two independents to meet the 60-vote threshold necessary to invoke cloture and cap debate on Perez at no more than 30 hours, clearing the way for him to potentially be confirmed this week....
