US Will Join WTO Case Against Russia Over Car Fees

Law360, New York (July 18, 2013, 1:49 PM EDT) -- The U.S. will join the European Union's recently filed World Trade Organization case against Russia over fees the country charges on imported cars, a top administration trade official said Thursday.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman told a U.S. House of Representatives committee that the U.S. would join the case over the fees, which Russia imposes on used cars to incentivize the purchase of newer, greener models. The country exempts its own automakers from the requirement, however.
