EU Again Takes Aim At German Pharmacy Law

Law360, New York (February 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has reportedly initiated a legal proceeding against Germany over the country's laws regulating pharmacies, which forbid a single company to own more than four pharmacies.

Details about the proceeding were not immediately available.

If the commission forced Germany to change its law, it would likely benefit German drug wholesaler Celesio AG, a German industry analyst told Dow Jones.

The German law makes pharmacy chains, common in other countries, illegal in Germany.
