Cal-Maine To Pay $28M To Settle Egg Price-Fixing Claims

Law360, New York (July 23, 2013, 2:33 PM EDT) -- Cal-Maine Foods Inc., the country's largest egg producer, announced Tuesday that it has agreed in principle to pay $28 million to settle with all direct purchasers in multidistrict litigation accusing a host of egg trade groups of a long-running scheme to limit production and drive up prices.

Jackson, Miss.-based Cal-Maine would be the third defendant to settle with nine direct purchasers in the case, which has been going on since 2008. The company will record a $28 million charge in the last quarter of this fiscal...
