Japan Joins Fight Against Russian Auto Recycling Fee In WTO

Law360, New York (July 24, 2013, 1:40 PM EDT) -- Japan became the second country to file a dispute against Russia in the World Trade Organization challenging recycling fees charged on imported cars Wednesday, a policy previously faulted by the European Union in a case filed earlier this month.

The fees at issue in the dispute are charged on all cars imported into Russia, with the amount varying depending on the size of the car's engine. Russia has installed the fees to incentivize the purchase of greener models, but does not apply them to domestic models...
