Fla. Voter Purge Challenge Dies After Voting Rights Act Ruling

Law360, Miami (July 25, 2013, 4:17 PM EDT) -- Citing the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling last month gutting the Voting Rights Act, a three-judge federal panel on Wednesday dismissed a challenge to Florida Gov. Rick Scott's attempt to purge the state's voting records of fraudulent voter registrations.

U.S. District Judges James D. Whittemore and James S. Moody and U.S. Circuit Judge Charles R. Wilson tossed a suit brought by civil rights groups against Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner challenging his order to county supervisors of elections to comb the rolls for potential non-citizens....
