LG Denied Phone Chips Judgment But Ducks Patent Claims

Law360, San Francisco (August 1, 2013, 8:39 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge Thursday shut down LG Electronics Inc.'s posttrial bid for a judgment excusing its phones from patent-infringement claims brought by an Alcatel-Lucent SA subsidiary, but simultaneously axed the patent holder's newer case against LG for making inconsistent claims.

After a jury found that LG and Apple phones didn't infringe Alcatel subsidiary Multimedia Patent Trust's video-compression patents, LG argued that it was entitled to judgment as a matter of law on phones containing Qualcomm chips not addressed in the trial. U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Huff...
