Plan To Change Patent Review System Alarms EFF

Law360, New York (February 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Joining a growing chorus of opposition to the pending Senate patent law reform bill, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has objected to a provision to change the way patents are challenged before the patent office.

Section 5 of the Senate's Patent Reform Act, S. 1145, would eliminate the long-standing re-examination process, replacing it with a review process that the EFF said could make it harder for nonprofit groups to challenge a patent.
