Charities Can't Shirk Donor Conditions, NJ Court Says

Law360, New York (August 5, 2013, 7:10 PM EDT) -- A charity in New Jersey that accepts a gift from a living donor for a specific purpose can't just change course and use those funds in a different manner without the donor's consent, the state's Appellate Division ruled Monday.

In a published decision, a three-judge panel ruled in favor of two animal lovers who accused SAVE, a nonprofit animal shelter, of refusing to return nearly $50,000 that the couple had donated as part of scrapped plans for a new facility in Princeton Township.
