Wal-Mart Enters Corporatewide Safety Settlement With DOL

Law360, New York (August 7, 2013, 2:57 PM EDT) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has entered into a corporatewide settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor to improve safety and health conditions in more than 2,000 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores, the agency announced Wednesday.

The settlement — which resolves a pair of enforcement cases that stemmed from the DOL's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's 2011 inspections of a Wal-Mart Supercenter store in Rochester, N.Y. — calls on the retail giant to beef up safety and health practices and training related to trash compactors, cleaning chemicals...
