NRC Dings Ga. Nuke Materials Program For Lapses

Law360, New York (August 8, 2013, 3:13 PM EDT) -- In an agency first, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Thursday that it's placing the state of Georgia on probation for deficiencies in a program allowing the state to license and regulate certain nuclear materials users within its borders and has beefed up oversight of the program.

Georgia is one of 37 states that have entered into agreements with the NRC giving them licensing and regulatory authority, and the so-called agreement state programs are periodically reviewed by the commission. The NRC said this is the first...
